Online safety
The growth of the internet and digital spaces has been rapid, and for today’s children it’s simply a normal part of everyday life.
Whether we like it or not, it’s unavoidable — which is why we believe it’s important to make the most of the opportunities it offers for learning.
You don’t have to be a technology expert to support your child’s online safety. However, staying up to date with popular apps, websites, potential risks, and available support tools is essential in helping protect them.
At our school, safeguarding pupils online is a top priority. We proudly follow the principles of the Be SMART Online campaign, which teaches children to stay safe by being careful about what they share, not meeting online contacts in person, accepting only trusted contacts, remembering that not everyone online is who they say they are, and telling a trusted adult if something worries them. Be SMART posters are clearly displayed in every classroom to reinforce these important messages and act as a daily reminder for pupils to make safe choices online.

Online safety is embedded into our curriculum, and every half-term pupils take part in dedicated lessons to help them understand how to stay safe, responsible, and respectful when using technology. In addition, every two years the Mini Police visit our Year 5 and Year 6 classes to deliver specialised online safety workshops, reinforcing key messages and empowering children to make safe choices in the digital world.

Our staff are continually vigilant and proactive in promoting online safety and safeguarding. All staff receive regular training and updates to ensure they are aware of current online risks, emerging trends, and safeguarding responsibilities. Online safety is regularly discussed in staff meetings and safeguarding briefings, ensuring that adults across the school remain informed, confident, and ready to respond swiftly to any concerns.

We hope that the online safety monthly newsletter (on our weekly newsletters) are helpful and that you make use of the regularly updated resources linked on this page.
They’re designed to help you stay connected with your child’s digital life, so you can support their safety and keep your whole family informed.

Please also look out for parent online safety meetings, led by SWGfl. Times and dates of these will be added to the newsletter
